Program Description

New England College’s Master of Science in IT Project Management program provides technology professionals with the proven leadership and technical skills required for today’s rapidly changing global environment.  The curriculum is designed for students to leverage the technical skills learned in school and on the job. Our program is designed to develop leaders who can initiate, define, plan, execute, and close out projects based upon their understanding of organizational dynamics, ability to assess and manage risk, support multiple stakeholders, address change, and execute timely projects while maintaining business value.

Because of the program’s focus, this 40-credit Masters can be completed in less than 2 years.  The course delivery and structure are specifically designed for working professionals to make the most efficient use of time and to optimize the learning experience.

Program Outcomes

This program is designed for technology students seeking to enhance overall strategic thinking, project management, and business acumen to successfully transition into the management and successful execution of projects.

Our goal is to provide the knowledge and skills through a wider lens to become a successful project manager who is at ease dealing with complex information, organizational challenges, and leading others in the shifting landscape within project management.

NEC’s program will enable students to:

  • Coordinate activities across all project management areas and process groups. (Capstone, PMP, Green Belt)
  • Recommend options for improvement based on quality gaps (Capstone, Green Belt)
  • Assess project needs, complexity, and magnitude (Capstone, PMP, Green Belt)
  • Apply management skills and concepts to identify, analyze, and creatively solve project-based and organizational challenges (Capstone)
  • Demonstrate the skills needed to manage complex projects ensuring the project delivers a quality output that is fit for purpose (Capstone, PMP, Green Belt)
  • Effectively communicate to lead interdisciplinary teams and build shared understanding (Capstone, PMP)

Certifications

This program will help students prepare to sit for the PMP exam and earn their Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Students will need to complete and pass the PMP and earn their Green Belt prior to completing the capstone. As there is no single governing body for the Lean and Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt), we will partner with a Master Black Belt to develop an internal assessment tool for certification.
