New England College also offers a postbaccalaureate licensure program to prepare individuals for New Hampshire State Teacher Certification in the following initial teacher licensure areas:
- Elementary Education K-6
- Elementary Education K-8
- Secondary Education 5-12
- English
- Social Studies
- Life Sciences (this program is no longer accepting applications)
- Mathematics (this program is no longer accepting applications)
- General Special Education K‐12
- Physical Education K-12
- Theatre Education K-12
- Art Education K-12 (this program is no longer accepting applications)
The program is designed specifically for people who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and seek additional courses to include student teaching to fulfill state licensure requirements.
Requirements for various areas of licensure can be located in the Undergraduate, Education section of the Undergraduate Residential Catalog. It is important to note, however, that all students must have a content major outside of education. Those seeking licensure in secondary education already have a content major built into their program. In addition, they need to pass Praxis II in their intended content area. Elementary education licensure candidates are required to pass Praxis II Elementary Education content, as well as Praxis II middle level Science, Social Studies, Math or English that corresponds to their content major (24 or more credits in one content area). Recognizing the unique educational backgrounds of each participant, New England College’s preparation program develops an academic plan that satisfies all the required education courses for the student’s area of licensure, as well as any additional courses in general education and/or content‐related disciplines. In this program, it is also possible simultaneously to achieve licensure and earn a master’s degree in education.
