COUN 5000 - Introduction to Counseling This course provides an introduction to professional counseling and to the MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Areas covered include: history and philosophy of professional counseling, multicultural dynamics, social justice and professional advocacy, roles, responsibilities and workplace settings of counselors, consultation, technology applications, trends in clinical mental health counseling, and an introduction to counseling ethics, legal issues, and current events. Students will learn about national standards, certification, and licensure requirements for their state. Credits: 3
