AR 2520 - Survey of Western Art Through focused examination of key works of art and architecture, this course explores the ways in which social, cultural, religious, political and aesthetic values have been expressed in Western society since antiquity. Students will develop a deeper understanding of connections, issues and influences across time periods and cultures. Projects and papers assigned will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of these connections, as well as to clearly articulate the characteristics, both culturally and aesthetically, of a particular historical time and place. Students will build and reinforce their familiarity with the vocabulary and media of art and architecture as well as continue to develop their visual analysis and critical thinking skills. (4 Credits) Strongly recommended for all art majors. Fulfills LAS6 requirement.
