Graduation Requirements: All Graduate Degree Programs
New England College confers degrees at the annual May commencement ceremony, January 31, July 15, September 15, December 31, as well as the third Saturday in March, and the fourth Saturday in October. To be considered for degree candidacy, the student must submit an Intent to Graduate Form by December 1 of the year preceding degree completion. Failure to submit this form could delay official degree awarding until the college’s next official conferral date.
All graduation requirements must be met within six years of entering the program, except for the Ed.D program which must be completed within seven years of entering the program (see specific Ed.D policy below). Petitions for extension must be submitted in writing to the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies or equivalent position.
All candidates must earn a final grade of B‐ or better in each required course and attain a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average on all graduate credit earned at New England College, based on a 4.00 scale.

Graduation Requirements for Master Degrees
Master degree candidates must complete all degree requirements, as outlined in the individual program descriptions, including successfully earning a minimum of thirty to sixty-four graduate credits, depending on the degree program.
Use of course credits toward more than one graduate degree at New England College are limited. No more than 50% of credits from one degree may be used toward earning a second graduate degree, subject to Program Director approval. No transfer credits may be used for more than one graduate degree at New England College.
For the Master of Education degree, courses applied to a single concentration may not be applied to a second concentration for the same degree.
Graduation Requirements for the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS)
CAGS programs provide professional development for educators beyond the master’s degree level.
CAGS candidates must complete all degree requirements, as outlined in the individual program descriptions, including successfully earning a minimum of thirty-two graduate credits. Some CAGS degrees with attached certifications may require additional credits to be earned, as outlined in the individual program descriptions.
Students who have already earned a graduate degree from New England College may be eligible to use some courses from their previous degree toward certification requirements within a CAGS degree. The number of credits applied to the CAGS degree from a previously earned graduate degree from New England College are subject to the maximum allowable overlap established by the Graduate Council of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Courses applied to a single CAGS concentration may not be applied to a second concentration for the same degree.
Graduation Requirements for the Doctor in Education Degree
- Completion of the courses in the Ed.D. program;
- Faculty approved dissertation proposal;
- Faculty approved comprehensive project;
- Faculty approved dissertation;
Program Completion Policy
The Doctorate of Education program must be completed within seven years from start date. However, students may take a leave of absence with the approval of the program director and a leave of absence will not be counted towards completion time. Including leaves of absences, the program length must not exceed 10 years from the start date. In extenuating circumstances, extensions beyond 10 years may be granted with approval of the Program Director, Associate Dean for Education, and Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.
