Program Description


The Executive Master of Science in Health Informatics program is designed to provide students with access to the technical knowledge and organizational management skills necessary to leverage data to increase operational efficiency in the healthcare industry. Students will learn and apply foundational concepts and methodologies that constitute health informatics from database design to compliance requirements to machine learning for decision making purposes. Designed for working professionals, this hybrid program exposes students to new and emerging tools and technologies needed for careers in the expanding Healthcare and related IT Healthcare fields.

For international students enrolled in these programs, Curricular Practical Training-CPT-will be available for eligible required internships/work placement.

Learning Outcomes


Upon completion of this program, students will be able to: 

  • Design databases and data dictionaries in consideration of classification systems, clinical vocabularies, and nomenclatures; 
  • Develop policies to achieve data integrity and compliance of health data within the organization; 
  • Apply privacy and security strategies to data related to health informatics; 
  • Examine standards for the exchange of data related to health informatics;  
  • Implement compliance requirements throughout the information life cycle;
  • Effectively utilize technologies to present visually consumable healthcare data for informed decision-making;
  • Distinguish components of risk management associated with data vulnerabilities and health informatics;
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills related to the planning and implementation of health informatics projects in organizations.

Residency-Based Hybrid Delivery


The program follows a 3 term per academic year structure, with mandatory 3-day residencies during each term. Students must attend all residencies to continue enrollment in the program.

In the period before and after the residencies, students will complete their course work online. Instructors will maintain regular ‘virtual’ office hours and will be available to assist students as required throughout the term.
