Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Addictions Certificate/Concentration, MS

This concentration in Addiction Counseling provides the additional professional educational hours for those interested in obtaining more credentials in alcohol and drug counseling and prepares students who wish to obtain licensure for the Masters Licensed Addiction and Drug Counselor (MLADC) or Licensed Addiction and Drug Counselors (LDAC) who are licensed by the State of NH Board of Licensing for Alcohol and Other Drug Professionals.  After completing this certificate if student wished licensure, they would engage in a more extensive practical supervision in the area of alcohol and drug counseling as well as additional training as required by the NH Board of Licensing.

This Addiction Counseling Concentration is synergistic with the NEC Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) graduate program and the NEC undergraduate major in psychology.  For example students within the CMHC program have the opportunity to take these additional courses as a way to achieve a concentration in addictions counseling.  Others might choose to pursue the addictions certificate and then choose to enter the program for CMHC.  The College’s undergraduate students can also encounter this certificate program as an opportunity to prepare themselves post-graduation by completing the coursework required for LADC licensure.  For students in related social science fields, this concentration can be used to further their professional opportunities.  In addition completion of the certificate when combined with the MS in CMHC helps the participating student to complete the 270 hour requirement for alcohol and drug use education required for the MLDAC as identified in Section 330-C:16 of Title XXX.
