COUN 5510 - Counseling Theories and Techniques This course is designed as an overview of the major counseling theories and approaches. Students will have an opportunity to explore topics such as the history and philosophy of clinical mental health counseling including the role of multicultural and social justice dynamics on the development of counseling theories and techniques. This course will review simulated counseling sessions to introduce and demonstrate the concept of translating theory to an applied practice. Students are encouraged to not only learn the major counseling theories and techniques but also to explore their personal beliefs and values to begin developing their own approach to counseling. This course is offered fully online, asynchronously with faculty and student interaction through Blackboard. Credits: 3
