ED 8095 - Pedagogy, Politics, and Policy for Teaching and Learning

Education is the cornerstone of American democracy and as such, teaching and learning do not happen in the isolation of classrooms, schools, or universities. National, state, and local political values and ideologies underscore the experiences, practices and outcomes of educational institutions, educators, and students. This course invites you to analyze the impact of politics on education in PK-20 environments.

Topics explored include academic and non-academic policies and practices, curricula and extra curricula activities, student conduct and wellness policies, culturally responsive approaches, and student and educator success and resilience. At the end of this course, students will demonstrate responsive leadership by applying effective educational strategies that result in student and educator success regardless of national, state, and local politics.
