COUN 5910 - Professional Issues and Ethics in CMHC


This course covers ethics from professional counseling organizations such as the American Counseling Association, American Mental Health Counselors Association, and the National Board for Certified Counselors. Students are expected to challenge themselves to consider how their own values and backgrounds will influence their own personal sets of ethics. Legal issues and governmental policies affecting professional counselors will be discussed. In addition roles and ethical responsibilities of professional counselors and clients will be explored. Students will become familiar with ethical decision-making models and apply this knowledge to fictitious case scenarios and ethical dilemmas. Prerequisites: COUN 5000 . May be taken concurrently with COUN 5000. Credits: 3
