ED 7020 - Exploring Assessment and Accountability: Controversies and Solutions


This course explores the various assessments, standardized and authentic, that teachers and school leaders can use to inform instruction. It goes beyond just looking at test data to actually developing plans using data to improve learning in schools and classrooms. Students will analyze the conditions needed for designing high-quality assessment systems, develop specific competencies and become proficient at productively discussing Assessment Practices, Assessment Principles, and Assessment Policies. Students will be able to more deeply engage in professional dialogue with other educational professionals about using and improving student assessment. The link between school effectiveness, student achievement, and accountability will be discussed. Credits: 4
