ED 3610 - Integrating Social Studies & English Language Arts for the Adolescent


This course challenges students to read widely and deeply from a broad range of stories including informational text,poetry, prose, fiction, and primary, secondary, and tertiary sources. Through the reading of varying literary genres and historical documents, students will gain historical, contemporary, & cultural knowledge as well as familiarity with various text structures and elements in order to present engaging content while delivering standards-aligned instruction. This course will also prepare the secondary English language arts or social studies pre-service educator to explore reading topics and trends of the 21st century in order to present myriad text options to entice and engage even the most reluctant reader. Students will also explore the integration of knowledge and ideas using collaborative instructional strategies and standards of both social studies and English language arts in order to support student success on standardized assessments. Prerequisites: ED 1000 , ED 2010   Offered every Fall. Credits: 4
