SM 1510 (KI 1510) - Introduction to Sport and Recreation Management This introductory‐level course is an overview of the theoretical disciplines and professions in sport and recreation management. Using lecture and discussion following a course text, students also will engage in in‐class and out of‐ class projects covering the diverse areas of the non‐profit and for‐profit sport industries. The course will survey: the history of modern U.S. sport; introduction to management, supervision, and leadership theories; legal aspects of sport and recreation including negligence, contracts, and risk management; sport in society; recreation facilities management; the NCAA and collegiate administration; marketing and services; accounting and budgeting; sport psychology; and more. (Students majoring in Sport and Recreation Management should take this course during the first year.) Offered every semester. (4 Credits)
