Description and Program Outcomes
The Biotechnology Bachelor of Science program will provide the NEC undergraduate the necessary lab-based skills to enter the growing field of Biotechnology. This program includes two new biotechnology lab courses and an applied biotech internship requirement. Other courses that are required of this program are existing NEC courses (Physics, chemistry, microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics and biochemistry). This program builds on the research culture established with the INBRE program and makes use of renovated lab space for students to conduct tissue and cell culture labs.
Students completing this program will:

Generate hypotheses, design approaches to test them, and interpret data to reach valid conclusions

Evaluate the current scientific literature and examine the bioethical implications of biology research.

Apply biology, chemistry and math to biotechnology projects.

Develop the skills for careers in biotechnology and biology research

Communicate science in a written and oral format in a professional setting
