The Environmental Science major prepares students to solve environmental problems using science based approaches. Students learn to address the impacts of humans on the environment through interdisciplinary collaboration, application of the process of science, and an understanding of the political, social, and economic contexts of environmental issues. This program emphasizes collaborative, project-based learning. Students work with faculty, community members, and a network of professionals to gain skills while conducting research and addressing challenges in our local communities. This major prepares students for graduate programs in the sciences, as well as careers with environmental consulting firms, local, state and federal regulatory agencies, and non-profit environmental organizations.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Know, understand, and apply fundamental concepts of environmental science.
2. Carry out the scientific process including study design, data collection, analysis and interpretation.
3. Apply critical thinking and creative problem solving to real-world environmental issues.
4. Work collaboratively and across disciplines.
5. Communicate science clearly and accurately in both oral and written form.
6. Master the technical skills required for careers and post-graduate programs in the field of environmental science.
7. Analyze and discuss the social, political, and economic context of environmental issues.
