NU 1110 - Professional Nursing I This course is the initial course in a two-part foundational nursing sequence designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to essential nursing knowledge. Students will learn the historical and theoretical underpinnings of the nursing profession. Key focus areas include professional nursing concepts that explore nursing attributes and roles. Students will begin to develop critical competencies in patient-centered care, including effective communication, collaboration, quality and safety practices, informatics, and evidence-based practice. Furthermore, this course introduces fundamental healthcare concepts, introducing students to diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare delivery and systems. It serves as a foundational step in comprehending the complex landscape of healthcare. In addition to these elements, the course introduces psychosocial concepts integral to nursing
practice. Students will explore the significance of culture and spirituality in healthcare, recognizing their role in shaping patient experiences and care outcomes.
