AHT 2260 - Cross Cultural Connections in Visual Art

This course will introduce how the visual arts express the beliefs, values, and philosophies of diverse cultures past and present.  Students will learn to identify and analyze stylistic elements like color, line, shape, texture, and balance, discovering how style is aligned with emotional expression and meaning.  Students will explore the social, religious, and political contexts of art and architecture in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, Islamic Lands, Europe, and the Americas. We will study the relationship between artists and their patrons, and how the roles played by artists, including those from underrepresented groups, have changed through time.
