KI 1110 - Introduction to Kinesiology

This course will introduce the student to the discipline of kinesiology (the study of human movement), and examine its varied sub-disciplines. It is designed to serve as a foundation course for the development of potential career goals and/or directions, as well as to provide the theoretical and practical application of this multifaceted field. The student will survey and review the profession from the perspectives of history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, exercise science, current trends and issues, as well as examine factors which influence career choices and professional preparation. In KI 1110 students are introduced to the various fundamental (“big picture” or “big idea”) aspects of the discipline. Majors in Kinesiology are strongly recommended to take this course in the first year of study. Offered every year. Credits: 4
