CJ 3810 - Community Policing and Public Relations

This course focuses on the concepts of community policing and problem oriented policing as they influence public relations within communities. Historically, law enforcement has been a local or regionalized entity wherein real and perceived policing problems were most often resolved at the local community level. Real time mass media and social change movements have greatly altered the landscape to include local as well as national activism without regard for location or population size. The course examines the methods used in community and problem oriented policing to develop social and procedural justice solutions to these vexing community relations issues.
