NU 3110 - Global Population Health

In this course, students will critically examine the complex interplay of individual, historical, social, cultural, political, and economic factors that influence the health of individuals and populations in an era of globalization. Students will explore these factors in both the causes (determinants of health) and the effects (health status) of globalization on populations, specifically on those in developing nations. Students will explore critical global health challenges such as infectious and noninfectious diseases, tobacco control, maternal and child health, under and over nutrition, environmental health, interpersonal violence, and terrorism using the WHO’s Commission on Social Determinants of Health (CSDH) conceptual model as a guiding framework.
