AHT 4210 - Art and Identity This course explores art as medium and creative means of social redress and personal expression. It explores arts potential to reflect, critique, and construct an artist’s emergent identities. Utilizing an inter-disciplinary approach, students will investigate topics including: Contemporary Theories of Identity, Autobiography and Art, The Body and Self-Identity, Performing the Self, and Identity Politics. Through readings, discussion, assignments, and museum visits students will be exposed to and critique systems of power and their role in shaping individual and cultural identity including race, class, gender, religion, and ethnicity.
