Description
The NEC Journalism minor consists of 24 credits that facilitate specialization in dynamic storytelling across multiple forms of media, while adhering to journalistic ethics and standards. Classwork focuses on writing, news judgement, and media production techniques. Student work will contribute to the three on-campus outlets: NEC-TV, WNEC-FM, and the award-winning student newspaper, The NewEnglander. Local media partnerships and internships will allow students to interact with and learn from industry experts.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate the role of the free press in a democratic society.
- Complete projects that adhere to the laws of free speech in the United States.
- Identify trends of current journalistic practice and make recommendations for improvement.
- Identify relevant and credible sources.
- Conduct interviews that are fair and balanced.
- Present news by employing a variety of multimedia techniques that tell a concise and unbiased story.
- Create mass media news products following accepted journalistic standards, including Associated Press style.
