BI 3000 - Careers in Science


This two-credit course is designed to help prepare Biology and/or Health Science majors for transitioning from New England College to either the working world or graduate/professional schools. Students will participate in a suite of collaborative activities that aim to generate the materials and strategies necessary for securing interviews. These include, but are not limited to:  1.) Professionalism / Working in a professional environment 2.) Building an effective resume; 3.)  Writing a competitive cover letter; 4.) Requesting letters of recommendation; 5.) Conducting a job search; and 6.)  Identifying/applying to graduate schools/professional programs.   The student experience culminates with an interview conducted by professionals from relevant academic and employment sectors, which will give students the opportunity to:   7.) Develop and hone interview skills.   To achieve objectives 1-7, students will need to participate in myriad assignments, activities, workshops, colloquia, and consult with the NEC Office of Career and Life Planning (CLP) as well as NEC alumni and various working professionals. Offered every fall. Credits: 2 Note: Course may be taken for 1 credit by students admitted prior to Fall 2022.
