AHT 4110 - World Architecture


This course is an introduction to world architecture from approximately 1400 CE to the present. The focus of the course is European architecture and architectural theory, and we will also explore Non-Western traditions. Major historical eras covered include: the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Romantic, Victorian, Post-Modernism, and contemporary architecture. Selected major architects, theories, buildings, and urban developments will be emphasized. Architecture will be considered within the contexts of religion, politics, philosophy, culture, economics, race, gender, society, engineering, and landscape architecture. The course will unveil the origins of architecture, how architecture relates to science, and place the importance of architecture within a global context. Credits: 4 Formerly AHT 411
