CJ 2130 - Criminal Procedure


This course will introduce students to the procedural aspects of criminal law. The focus will be on the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments of the Constitution and their application in the criminal justice system from arrest to conviction. Students will examine the evolution and continued interpretation of these amendments by reading and discussing the important US Supreme Court cases that have shaped procedural law. Topics to be covered include search and seizure, exceptions to the warrant requirement, the exclusionary rule, the Miranda decision, confessions and interrogation practices. Prerequisites: CJ 1110 .
