BI 2060 - Marine Biology


The marine environment covers >70% of Earth’s surface and contains a wealth of biological diversity. This fifteen-week course examines how living and non-living characteristics of the world’s oceans influence the abundance, distribution, and evolution of marine life.  Specific topics will include primary and secondary production, rocky intertidal biodiversity, estuaries, subtidal communities, coral reefs, pelagic and deep-sea communities, impacts of humans on the ocean, and marine conservation.  Prerequisite(s):BI 1120  or ES 1110   Offered every other spring in odd numbered years. Credits: 4
